Flood Damage Remodeling
The flooding of a home can wreak havoc on the actual structure or your home, belongings, and even cause health hazards. Flood water is full of contaminants and lots of mud. Many if not all of your belongings can be ruined all at once, especially if there was a very severe storm or deep flood. We know how traumatic this can be for you and your loved ones and we are here to help you in moving forward. After a flood, cleaning up is a long and difficult process, which is where we step in to do the job right. Some of the typical procedures include:
Furniture and Household Items
Furniture, rugs, bedding, and clothing articles must be taken outside and dried. If the damage is severe, many items will need to be thrown away. Mattresses should always be thrown away. Many of these items can soak up contaminants from the floodwaters and will need to be properly cleaned if not discarded. Doors and trim may need to be replaced if the damage is too severe.
Ceilings and WallsWalls act like a sponge when wet causing them to soak up contaminated floodwater. These can become a permanent health hazard. Depending on the height of the water damage, you may be able to replace only portions of your walls. In extreme cases, entire walls or even an entire room or floor of a building may need all new drywall. Plaster and paneling can sometimes be saved, but air will have to be circulated into the wall cavities to dry out the studs and sills. We will remove any old drywall and damaged material to begin the rebuilding process.
Flooring Repairs and RemovalsDepending on the type of floor in your home, there are different steps we can take to address the damage done to your floor. Carpets that have been underwater for over 24 hours are, in most cases, removed for health hazards. We use high quality fans along with disinfectants to clean and dry damaged areas. Full floor replacements may be necessary in more severely damaged areas.
All Power must be shut off immediately. It will then need to be inspected closely for damaged circuits and equipment. Wiring will have to be completely dried out. Switches, outlets, panels and junction boxes will need to be thoroughly cleaned if not replaced.
PlumbingThe flooding of a sewage system can be a very hazardous situation to those in the immediate area. Contaminated water and lack of sanitation are a common outcome of a home being flooded. We will do a complete inspection of your plumbing system, replacing what is broken or severely damaged may be necessary.
HVAC Systems and Ducts
Your Heating and Cooling systems must be inspected and properly cleaned. Flood soaked insulation will need to be replaced along with any other damaged parts of your HVAC system.
