I was told by a prior mold inspector that I may have mold, but he didn't test properly. Then I had another guy come out and charge me for putting together a mold remediation protocol, and he declined to do additional testing since the first guy had already done it. I then called Anderson Restoration to come out and do the work - I expected the fees to have been in the range of $10k-30k, and that's not counting the disruption and expense of moving out and getting a rental home while they do the work. But when Nicolas from Anderson Restoration came out, he told me to pump the brakes, take a step back, and let's see if this is actually mold in the first place, because he was skeptical. He gave me the names of a couple of reputable mold testing companies (shoutout to Blake Salcetti and Dean Cox from Texas Mold Advisors). They came out, tested properly, and concluded I don't have mold - what I'm seeing are just fruit fly droppings and can be easily handled. Anderson saved me an enormous amount of hassle and expense, and you can bet I will refer them to anyone I know who needs mold restoration or water damage restoration work done. Thank you.Posted on Google![]()

In March of 2024 a valve broke in my upstairs bathroom causing water damage to it and the kitchen below it. Anderson was recommended by my insurance company so I used them for the cleanup, dry out and restoration. They did an excellent job in all areas. I was so grateful and impressed with the work and professionalism they showed but I was glad to be done with them. Little did I know I would need them again. In December 2025 a pipe broke in the same bathroom causing flooding in the kitchen again. I immediately called Jared and asked if he remembered me. He said of course! What can I do for you? I told him what happened and he sent a team. Again they were prompt, professional and sensitive to my needs. They don’t mind going the extra mile for you even negotiating with the insurance company. I highly recommend Anderson Restoration.Posted on Google![]()

Anderson Restoration did an amazing job thoroughly assessing the water damage done to my home. Ramiro Torres is the project manager on my case. Him and his team answered any questions or concerns that I had. They worked seamlessly with my insurance adjuster and they cleaned up after the work order was complete. I look forward to working with this team in the future! Update: Anthony Tran is helping with the repair portion of the project. He is doing an amazing job working with my insurance and providing timely estimates. I could not have asked for a better team!

Fire Damage Restoration Process
When a fire strikes your home or business, it is more than just the flames that leave a mark. The smoke, the smell, the memories, and the fear all come rushing in at once. Everything feels chaotic. We have seen it many times here at Anderson Restoration. Homeowners standing outside their properties, unsure what to do next, wondering if anything can be saved.
Here is the truth. Recovery is possible. The fire damage restoration process exists to bring your property and your peace of mind back to life. In this article, we will walk you step by step through what really happens during fire restoration in Houston. From your first call to the final rebuild, you will understand what to expect, how long it takes, and who can help.
Every fire is different. Costs and timelines vary depending on the level of damage, contents, and water intrusion. But there is hope.
What Is Fire Damage Restoration?
Fire damage restoration is the process of bringing your home or business back to a safe, livable condition after a fire. This process includes much more than replacing burned materials.
It involves removing soot, deodorizing smoke odors, and preventing secondary problems like mold. The goal is to return your space to its pre-loss condition while keeping it structurally sound and healthy to live in.
We follow the standards set by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, including the IICRC S740 guidelines for restoring personal items affected by smoke and soot.
In Houston, our climate makes this even more challenging. High humidity, heavy rain, and local building code requirements mean fire damage restoration projects in Houston, TX, must be handled quickly, carefully, and professionally.

Full Fire Damage Restoration Process (Step-by-Step Walkthrough)
Once the fire department clears the property and your insurance adjuster has inspected the scene, the real recovery begins. This is where trained professionals step in.
The fire damage restoration process is detailed, technical, and emotional all at once. It involves more than just cleaning soot or repainting walls. It means rebuilding the safety and comfort you once had.
At Anderson Restoration, our team follows a proven series of steps used across the industry and adapted for Houston’s humid climate. Here is what that process looks like, from start to finish.
Inspection and Assessment
The first step is a complete evaluation of the property. Our licensed restoration experts walk through the building once it is safe, carefully inspecting every wall, ceiling, and structural element. We test for hidden heat damage, smoke penetration, and water intrusion from firefighting.
This inspection helps us determine which areas can be repaired and which must be replaced. We document everything with photos, notes, and digital moisture readings. Each measurement matters because it guides the plan for cleaning, drying, and rebuilding.
We also identify safety hazards such as electrical exposure, unstable beams, or possible contamination from chemicals. Every detail is checked before work begins.
Securing and Containment
Once the initial inspection is complete, we secure the property. Open roofs and shattered windows can let in rain, wind, and intruders. In this stage, our crew boards up doors and windows, installs temporary fencing, and covers damaged roof sections with heavy tarps.
Containment is just as critical. We seal off unaffected areas using plastic barriers and negative air pressure machines to prevent soot and smoke from spreading. These particles can travel quickly through air vents and settle on clean surfaces, leaving behind a strong odor. Containment keeps that from happening.
Early action here protects the remaining parts of your home and helps reduce overall cleaning time later.
Water Removal and Drying
Fire and water often go hand in hand. The same water that saves your home can also create new problems if it lingers. That is why immediate water extraction comes next.
Using pumps, vacuums, air movers, and industrial dehumidifiers, our technicians remove standing water from floors, walls, and ceilings. We then use moisture meters and thermal cameras to track hidden damp spots inside drywall or under flooring.
Drying is a science. It takes constant monitoring to maintain the right balance of temperature, airflow, and humidity. Houston’s moist climate can make this step longer, but it is vital for preventing mold.
Debris Removal, Demolition, & Content Pack-Out
Once the property is dry and secure, we begin the cleanup. This step involves removing all burned and unsafe materials. Charred drywall, flooring, and insulation are carefully cut out until only solid, undamaged structures remain.
This stage can be emotional. Seeing your home partially stripped can feel like a loss all over again. But remember, this is where renewal begins. Each layer removed makes way for safe rebuilding.
At the same time, our content restoration team begins what we call a “pack-out.” All salvageable personal belongings are inventoried, packed, and moved to a secure facility for cleaning and storage.
Furniture, photos, clothing, and documents are often cleaned using ozone chambers, ultrasonic machines, or dry-cleaning methods approved under the IICRC S740 standards. Every item is tracked digitally, so you always know what was taken and where it is stored.
Smoke, Soot, and Odor Cleaning and Decontamination
This is one of the most technical parts of the fire damage restoration process. Smoke and soot behave differently depending on what burned. Synthetic materials like plastics or paint leave oily residue, while wood creates dry soot. Both require specific cleaning agents.
Our team uses specialized methods such as dry sponges, HEPA vacuums, chemical sponges, or media blasting to remove soot from walls, ceilings, beams, and HVAC systems. Duct cleaning is especially important because lingering soot in the air system can recontaminate your home.
Deodorization comes next. We use advanced methods such as thermal fogging, ozone treatment, or hydroxyl generators to neutralize smoke odors at the molecular level. This process can take several days, but the results are worth it. You will notice clean, breathable air instead of that heavy, burnt smell.
We also clean and restore contents like furniture, fabrics, and documents. The goal is to restore personal belongings after smoke exposure whenever possible.
Once structural cleaning and deodorizing are complete, we perform another air quality test to confirm it is safe to rebuild.
Final Structural Repairs and Reconstruction
This is where the space begins to feel like home again. After cleanup and deodorization, we begin reconstruction. Depending on the damage, this can include new framing, drywall installation, roofing, plumbing, or electrical work.
Every detail matters here. Paint colors, flooring finishes, cabinetry, and fixtures are chosen to match or improve the original design. We coordinate with licensed tradesmen who follow Houston’s local building codes and safety standards.
Throughout this phase, we stay in close communication with you and your insurer. You receive regular updates on progress, costs, and completion timelines.
Our aim is to rebuild not just the structure, but also your comfort and sense of normalcy.
Final Walkthrough, Handover, and Documentation
Once the project reaches completion, we will conduct a final walkthrough with you. This is your chance to see every repaired area, ask questions, and confirm satisfaction before signing off.
We also provide a complete documentation package that includes before and after photos, cleaning logs, and warranties for materials or labor. This paperwork is useful for future insurance needs and peace of mind.
Before leaving, we offer simple maintenance tips to keep your home healthy, such as changing HVAC filters, checking for lingering moisture, and scheduling annual inspections.
The process may take days or months, depending on severity, but every step brings you closer to a safe, restored home.
At Anderson Restoration, we see every fire not just as damage, but as a story waiting for renewal. Our mission is to make your property safe, clean, and livable again so you can move forward with confidence.
Typical Timeline (By Severity)
Every fire damage restoration process is different. Some homes need only light cleaning, while others require a full rebuild. Still, understanding what is typical can help you prepare mentally, financially, and emotionally for the road ahead.
Light or Small Fire Damage
If the fire was contained to a single room, restoration usually takes several days to a week. Common examples include small kitchen fires or smoke from a short electrical issue. Crews focus on removing soot, deodorizing, and cleaning surfaces.
Moderate Fire Damage
When multiple rooms are affected, or when structural and smoke damage spread beyond the point of origin, restoration may take one to three weeks. This level often requires smoke damage restoration in Houston, TX, partial demolition, reconstruction, and content cleaning. Humidity and local permit timelines can extend that process by several days.
Severe or Structural Fire Damage
Large fires involving roof, framing, or major system replacement take much longer. Expect several weeks to a few months, depending on the availability of materials and insurance approvals. Royal Restoration reports similar ranges for major losses across Texas.
Local Factors That Affect Timelines
Houston’s weather plays a role. Rain, humidity, and storm delays can slow drying and rebuilding. Building permit wait times may also stretch schedules slightly.
Early action makes a big difference. The sooner you call trained professionals, the faster your home can stabilize, reducing both cost and emotional stress.
Why Professional Fire Damage Restoration Experts Are Essential (Especially in Houston)
After a fire, it might be tempting to handle cleanup on your own. A little soap, a fresh coat of paint, maybe a rented fan. But the truth is, fire damage restoration experts exist for a reason. Fire damage is complex. It affects the air, structure, wiring, and even the items you cannot see behind walls.
Safety Comes First
Fires leave behind hidden dangers. Structural beams can be weakened, making floors unsafe to walk on. Smoke residues can carry toxic particles that cling to walls and fabrics. Water from firefighting may contain bacteria or chemicals. A professional team uses protective gear, filtration equipment, and cleaning methods approved by the IICRC to remove those hazards safely.
Expertise and Proper Equipment
Professionals bring more than tools. They bring knowledge. Certified teams know how to clean, dry, and rebuild without spreading soot or mold. They follow strict restoration standards and use industrial-grade dehumidifiers, HEPA air scrubbers, and odor-neutralizing systems that homeowners simply do not have access to.
Insurance Coordination
Another major advantage is documentation. Restoration companies like Anderson Restoration handle detailed reports, photos, and estimates that insurers require. This saves you time and reduces the risk of claim denial.
The Houston Factor
Our climate makes professional help even more essential. High humidity, heavy rain, and warm temperatures can turn leftover moisture into mold in as little as two days. Trained fire restoration Houston specialists know how to prevent that. They understand local codes, city permits, and regional weather challenges that directly affect recovery.
Choosing certified professionals means faster cleanup, safer air, and a home restored the right way the first time. Peace of mind is worth it. Look for these qualities as you search for fire damage restoration companies near me in Houston, TX.
