Sewage Backup Cleanup in Houston

Ignoring contaminated water inside your home is not just a property risk, it is a health hazard that worsens with every hour. Sewage backup cleanup requires a fundamentally different approach than clean water extraction because the water itself carries bacteria, viruses, and biological waste that can make your family sick. Anderson Restoration responds to these calls across the Houston metro with the specialized equipment and safety protocols this type of damage demands.

I was told by a prior mold inspector that I may have mold, but he didn't test properly. Then I had another guy come out and charge me for putting together a mold remediation protocol, and he declined to do additional testing since the first guy had already done it. I then called Anderson Restoration to come out and do the work - I expected the fees to have been in the range of $10k-30k, and that's not counting the disruption and expense of moving out and getting a rental home while they do the work. But when Nicolas from Anderson Restoration came out, he told me to pump the brakes, take a step back, and let's see if this is actually mold in the first place, because he was skeptical. He gave me the names of a couple of reputable mold testing companies (shoutout to Blake Salcetti and Dean Cox from Texas Mold Advisors). They came out, tested properly, and concluded I don't have mold - what I'm seeing are just fruit fly droppings and can be easily handled. Anderson saved me an enormous amount of hassle and expense, and you can bet I will refer them to anyone I know who needs mold restoration or water damage restoration work done. Thank you.

In March of 2024 a valve broke in my upstairs bathroom causing water damage to it and the kitchen below it. Anderson was recommended by my insurance company so I used them for the cleanup, dry out and restoration. They did an excellent job in all areas. I was so grateful and impressed with the work and professionalism they showed but I was glad to be done with them. Little did I know I would need them again. In December 2025 a pipe broke in the same bathroom causing flooding in the kitchen again. I immediately called Jared and asked if he remembered me. He said of course! What can I do for you? I told him what happened and he sent a team. Again they were prompt, professional and sensitive to my needs. They don’t mind going the extra mile for you even negotiating with the insurance company. I highly recommend Anderson Restoration.

Anderson Restoration did an amazing job thoroughly assessing the water damage done to my home. Ramiro Torres is the project manager on my case. Him and his team answered any questions or concerns that I had. They worked seamlessly with my insurance adjuster and they cleaned up after the work order was complete. I look forward to working with this team in the future! Update: Anthony Tran is helping with the repair portion of the project. He is doing an amazing job working with my insurance and providing timely estimates. I could not have asked for a better team!

What Contaminated Water Damage Looks Like

A sewer overflow cleanup often starts in the lowest point of a home, typically a ground-floor bathroom, laundry room, or crawl space where the main drain line connects. Black water cleanup involves Category 3 water, the most hazardous classification, which means every material the water contacts is considered contaminated. Contaminated water cleanup goes beyond extraction; affected drywall, carpet, insulation, and personal belongings often must be removed entirely rather than dried in place. Toilet overflow (category 3) cleanup applies when the overflow involves sewage backing up through the drain rather than clean tank water. Basement sewage cleanup can affect the lowest levels of commercial or multi-story structures where drain systems are under slab or below grade. The sewage smell after backup cleanup is not just unpleasant; that odor signals the presence of harmful gases and microbial contaminants that require professional treatment to fully eliminate.

Sewage Exposure

Health and Property Risks of Sewage Exposure

The contaminants in sewage water do not stay confined to the area where the backup occurred. Water wicks into wall cavities, seeps beneath flooring, and saturates porous materials where bacteria continue to multiply in Houston’s warm climate. Direct contact with Category 3 water can cause gastrointestinal illness, skin infections, and respiratory issues. The longer contaminated materials remain in your home, the more extensive the removal becomes and the more likely secondary mold growth will develop.

FAQ's

Water damage can be a big problem because it can weaken the structure of a building. When water gets into walls, ceilings, or floors, it can damage the materials, like wood or drywall. This damage can make the building less stable and could cause parts of it to break or fall apart.

Water damage can also lead to mold and mildew growth, which is not only bad for surfaces but can also make people sick if they breathe it in. Mold can trigger allergies and other respiratory problems, so it's important to deal with water damage quickly.

After water damage occurs, it's important to avoid certain actions that could make things worse. Don't enter rooms with standing water until it's safe, as there's a risk of electric shock. Also, don't use wet appliances or electronics, as they could be damaged or dangerous.

Trying to clean up or fix the damage yourself without the right tools and knowledge could end up costing more in the long run. One of the best steps you can take is to reach out to Anderson Restoration for water damage cleanup in Houston and surrounding areas.

If your home has been flooded, had a sewage backup, or sprung a leak, there are steps you should take to deal with the aftermath. First, make sure it's safe by turning off the electricity and gas. Then, take pictures or videos of the damage for insurance purposes.

We recommend you to contact Anderson Restoration to help with the insurance claim process.  Hiring professionals like Anderson Restoration who specialize in water damage repair in Houston to remove the water, dry out the area, repair damage loss and prevent mold from growing; would be the next best step.
